Here are some of the notes from our last Monthly Meeting (2/5/25):
- Gus Garcia and Violet Pierce met with Director Sanchez of Colorado D.O.C. (Legislative Director) to discuss funding for 14 beds at Christ Life ministries. The amount for the 14 beds is $300,000.
- The second question was how much money C.D.O.C. is saving by deporting persons in the country illegally.
- The third question asked was for the C.D.O.C. to support the defunding of the polygraph in prison and for persons who are on parole.
- How many persons have been tabled and eligible for parole who are just waiting for an address in the community?
It is important to note that we received no answers to these questions and will follow up with C.D.O.C. next week to try and get those answers.
The Colorado Joint Budget Committee met last week to receive testimony from the public before finalizing the budget.
Gus Garcia gave testimony asking to defund the polygraph, for money to be allocated for the 14 beds at Christ Life Ministries, and for funding to be allocated for PICS (Post Incarceration Syndrome) research and treatment.
Meetings with Christlife Ministries to allow an entire wing of their Lake facility to be rented out to Bridgeway for the placement of persons who have committed sex offenses and are waiting for a bed in the community to be paroled.
Gus Garcia has met with Lorraine Archuleta to try and assist her in becoming an approved vendor with C.D.O.C for eight beds in her modular home here in Pueblo.
Gus Garcia is going to send a request to CDOC Director Andre Stancil requesting authorization to get our newsletter and website sent to all persons having been convicted of sex offenses.
